Inparticular, GoteTex shoes aren't very good for trail running unless it is really cold because your feet would become sweaty and the sweat would have a hard time escaping, and then you'd be prone to blisters. Trail running shoes tend to be far more breathable. Salomon trail running shoes tend to be very good, but they are on the narrow side.
Forthose with narrow feet, Salomon shoes would be the best. All of these brands offer good support and lasting quality, Scarpa and Meindl especially. Merrell, at least from my experience, has been recently lacking in the latter, their shoes may crack after a while due to bad design, such as the one in MOAB 2 .
Yestrail running shoes are IMHO much better suited to hiking than ‘hiking boots’. Out of the 3 you mentioned I would recommend the Wildcross as they have a slightly wider fit, and HikingShoes are OK for Walking on Concrete. JustFYI, Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GTX comes in wide sizes too. My two hiking boots/shoes are the Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GTX’s and the Merrell Moab lows - love them both but have a slight preference for the Salomon’s - they’re lighter and stiffer and take longer to fully break in, but I like them more and more now that they’re fully broken

SalomonX Ultra 3 review: The Salomon X Ultra 3 is an excellent shoe for any short to medium hikes on technical terrains. It provides great stability and ample protection for the feet. It has superb traction on all surfaces and does not disappoint even on wet surfaces. It is reliably robust, as, after 400 km, it barely has any sign of use.Ph8QUxi.
